"Anchors Aweigh!" is the fight song of the U.S. Naval Academy and the unofficial anthem of the U.S. Navy, which means today we’re highlighting the lots with a strong naval connection: the GMC CCKW 353 and the Ford GTB; both presented in the distinctive WWII USN livery.
But why are these vehicles painted blue-grey and not green?
U.S. Navy equipment required camouflage suited to maritime environments. The blue-grey tones blended far better with harbors, docks, ships, and coastal operations, reducing visibility from sea and air. As a result, Navy trucks received their own unique paint scheme to match the operational setting in which they served. A refreshing change from the familiar olive drab.
