Usage
The One-Piece “sharp-nosed” Transmission Assembly is used on the following tanks:
Sherman (all models: M4, M4A1, M4A2, M4A3, M4A4 VVSS and HVSS) in their mid- to late-production versions, especially those built by: General Steel Castings, Chrysler and Ford
Priest M7B1
Transport
For safe transport, the complete assembly (total weight of 4,070 kg (8975 lbs.) is disassembled and will be shipped in four separate items.
Unlike most transmissions used in WWII-era armored vehicles, the Sherman’s iconic one-piece transmission and differential housing featured a synchronized gearbox, offering smoother shifting and improved drivability for tank crews under combat conditions.
This design represented a significant advance in wartime armored vehicle engineering and contributed greatly to the Sherman’s reputation for reliability in the field.
